Wedding abroad – wedding in the Caribbean

Feeling the gentle Caribbean breeze as it stirred the palm leaves above. The bride is slowly approaching the alter with her tropical flower bouquet. The groom awaits in awe and welcomes the bride… They both turn to the preacher with a smile. No stress or tension of a big ceremony. Their wedding is exactly as they dreamt of.

This is not a paragraph from novel. This is a wedding on Roatan. Small, intimate, and full of love. Share this beautiful moment with your loved ones.

The ceremony can take place on a private beach or on the terrace of our resort. It’s all up to you. Before we let you drift off to imagining your ideal wedding day here on Roatan there are few decisions to be made.

Legal wedding or a symbolic ceremony?

Legally binding weddings in Honduras must meet requirements of Honduran law. Marriages valid in Honduras are also recognized and legally valid in other countries.

For a legal wedding in Honduras, you will need following documents from your country:

  • Birth certificate (certified copy)
  • An Affidavit of Single Status
  • If previously married divorce decree or death certificate
  • Criminal record

All documents must be officially translated to Spanish and apostilled. Documents must be issued within 3-month period.

A few extra documents are required to obtain in Honduras:

  • Medical certificate
  • Criminal record from Honduras
  • An interview with the wedding officiant

All the documents are required by law and have to be submitted at least 3 days before the wedding.

After the wedding you will receive a marriage certificate which has to be submitted for appropriate certifications and apostilled in Tegucigalpa. Fully certified document from Tegucigalpa will serve as a legal wedding document internationally.

Tip: If you would like to save your time and money processing the legal documents and certifications, we are happy to offer services of our lawyer.

If you would like to avoid paperwork and all costs there is an easy solution. A symbolic wedding ceremony.

Symbolic wedding ceremony abroad

A symbolic wedding ceremony can be the ideal substitute to a legal wedding abroad. You will save a lot of time and money for legal translations and certifications.

The legally binding wedding ceremony can be officially performed with respective authorities at your home with two witnesses present. Having the legal wedding at your home country saves a lot of time and paperwork.

Symbolic wedding ceremony can look as real as the legal one. If you choose not to inform your guests nobody will be able to tell the difference. It could be your dream wedding day on a beach. There are no rules and legal requirements to follow. The ceremony can be performed according to your preferences. And with the money you save on the legal matters you can fully relax and enjoy your honeymoon.

Tip for the brides to be: if you are planning on changing your surname after the wedding, we recommend holding the legally binding ceremony after your symbolic wedding or to do it longer in advance so there is enough time to obtain a new passport for your travels.

Wedding abroad without travel agency

Whether you are planning a secret wedding abroad or simply looking to travel to Roatan, Honduras without a travel agency we are here for you. We can plan the perfect wedding day with you. Are you ready?

What not to forget on your Caribbean wedding

Wedding dress and an outfit for the groom

Even though the selection of wedding dresses on the island is getting bigger every year it’s still no match for the current trends in the USA, Canada, and Europe. It’s best to bring your wedding dress with you. We highly recommend light and airy dress preferably from natural materials. The weather can be very hot and humid. Another important thing to consider are shoes. High heels will not do well in the sand and full shoes of sand won’t be very pleasant either.

Plan well!

The wedding day belongs to you and you only. It’s only up to you how you want to celebrate. Ask yourselves not the relatives. It’s impossible to please everyone in the audience. If you share your wishes and ideas of your dream wedding day with us in advance, we will make sure everything goes as planned.

Book in time

If you already have you date set, don’t hesitate to make a reservation. We accept reservations up to 2 years in advance. The hotel capacity is limited, and we want to make sure we can accommodate you as well as all your guests. We love weddings at Tranquilseas!
